Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit
Parents seeking baptism for their Child
Congratulations on the arrival of your child! We join you in giving thanks to God for the gift of your child.
It is our faith that the greatest gift that any person can receive is the Sacrament of Baptism and we look forward to your child receiving this Sacrament. For first time parents, we do require a brief catechetical class during which we discuss what baptism is, the importance of baptism, and the responsibilities of the parents and godparents. You can use the form on this page to set up a date for your child’s baptism or feel free to call our parish office (617-696-0120).

What is baptism?
It is the first of the seven sacraments by which the recipient is united to God and begins his or her journey towards perfect love of God. Baptism is the beginning of the Christian life and the foundation upon which our relationship with God is built.
Why baptism is necessary?
In John’s Gospel Jesus speaks of the necessity of baptism when he tells his listeners: “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.” (John 3:5). It is because of this teaching that The Church professes that the only way she knows with certainty to eternal happiness if through Baptism. Jesus reinforces the importance of baptism at the end of His time on earth with these last words to His disciples: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
Who can be baptized?
Anyone who has not yet been baptized.
What does baptism do?
Jesus gave the Sacraments in order to help bring us into full union with God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Baptism takes away the impediment inherent to our wounded human nature, which we call Original Sin. Baptism gives each person the spiritual character of being able to love God with one’s whole person. In the Sacrament, each person is made to be a dwelling place for God and is given the gifts of Faith, Hope, and Charity. God promises in baptism to provide all the help that is necessary for that person to enter into perfect and eternal love of God.
